Eyebrow transplantation
Eyebrows play an important role in facial expression and an eyebrow transplant can be the solution for people who suffer from thin eyebrows due to a variety of reasons. Whether it's over-browing or genetic factors, an eyebrow transplant can provide fuller and more defined eyebrows that look natural and last permanently.
For many women and men, the shape and fullness of their eyebrows can be an important factor in feeling confident and attractive. An eyebrow transplant can restore or improve the shape of the eyebrows, which can contribute to a more harmonious and balanced facial profile.
Akacia Medical offers high quality eyebrow transplants performed by experienced surgeons. During the initial consultation, your expectations and wishes will be discussed and your health and hair quality will be assessed. You will also receive information on the cost, duration of the operation and waiting time. During the surgery itself, the transplant is performed under local anaesthesia and the hair follicles are gently placed on the eyebrows to achieve the desired shape and fullness.
After the surgery, you will receive detailed instructions on aftercare and continued contact with Akacia Medical until an evaluation is made. The final result of the eyebrow transplant will be visible after about 12 months.
Design your new eyebrows
The FUE technique is the most common method used for eyebrow transplants because it is gentle and safe for the patient. In this technique, hair follicles are taken from another part of the body, usually the head, and inserted into the eyebrows with small needles. This process is painless and performed under local anaesthesia.
After an eyebrow transplant, it may take a few days for the eyebrows to look natural again. The newly planted hair follicles may cause some redness and swelling, but this usually disappears after a few days. It is important to avoid touching your eyebrows for the first week after the transplant and to avoid strenuous exercise or activities that may cause you to sweat a lot.
After an eyebrow transplant, you can expect your eyebrows to be fuller and more defined, giving you a natural and beautiful look. Since the results are permanent, you don't have to worry about having to fill in or correct your eyebrows again.
Here's how an eyebrow transplant works
After the planning of the new eyebrows is completed, we draw the desired contours. The procedure is then performed under local anaesthetic and usually takes between 2-4 hours. The transplant area and the smaller donor area are shaved off, usually from the back of the head, as the structure of the hair is similar to the eyebrows. The FUE method is used to achieve natural eyebrows by placing the hairs in the same direction of growth as existing hairs. To minimise scarring and damage to existing hair follicles, minimal incisions are made. It is also important that the hair follicles are placed at the correct depth for a good result.
After a few months, the transplanted follicles start producing hair. The new hairs retain their characteristics from their original location and will grow in the same way as non-transplanted hairs.
There are various conditions that affect the eyebrows. Madarosis is a condition that involves the loss of hair from the eyebrows and sometimes also from the eyelashes. The eyebrows consist of three parts: the inner part where the hair grows upwards or sideways, the middle part above the iris where the hair grows outwards from the temples and the outer parts above the outer edge of the eye. Madarosis only affects the growth of the outer parts. Loss of the entire eyebrow is usually due to diseases such as Seborrhoea or Alopecia.
The result of eyebrow transplantation
After a hair transplant, it is common for the transplanted hairs to fall out after about 2-5 weeks. This is a normal process and it takes about 2-3 months for the follicles to start producing hair again. The final result can be seen after just over a year. The new hairs grow naturally and adapt to your eyebrows. Sometimes the transplanted hairs can be stronger and longer than the existing ones, but it is possible to smooth and shape the brows to the desired length.
The healing process
After an eyebrow transplant, the healing process is short and painless. Typically, you are ready to return to work after just 10 days. When the anaesthetic starts to wear off, you may want to take some painkillers. For the first three days after the procedure, you should take it very easy as the new hairs grow in. There may be a slight redness in the area, but usually scabs disappear within a week to 10 days. It is important to avoid exercise for the first month after surgery.
The number of hair follicles transplanted ranges from 50 to 400 hairs. The results are usually visible after about a year and the transplanted hairs grow naturally and integrate with your existing eyebrows. However, the transplanted hairs may be stronger and longer than the existing ones, but this can be easily levelled and shaped to the desired length.
