Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment for hair is a method used mainly to treat hair and skin. Many people choose PRP as an effective way to counteract hair loss. In addition, it can help hair follicles recover and promote hair growth in hair transplant patients.

Important information on labels on PRP tubes

Choosing the right brand of PRP tubes can make a big difference to the outcome of treatment. An independent study compared several PRP producers and showed clear differences. Arthrex was the big test winner and is scientifically proven to generate more growth factors than other brands - from 2 to 7 times more.

At our clinic, we use PRP tubes from Arthrex and RegenLab, known for their high quality. Many clinics in Sweden use several tubes during a PRP treatment. However, their tubes are not of the same quality as Arthrex and RegenLab, and therefore up to seven tubes are needed to reach the same amount of growth factors that a single tube from Arthrex or RegenLab can provide.

HOW A PRP TREATMENT WORKS

We start by taking a blood sample from the patient. The blood is centrifuged to separate the plasma with a high concentration of platelets (thrombocytes) from the red blood cells. The plasma then contains 3-5 times more platelets than in normal blood.

Before treatment, we anaesthetise your scalp to reduce any discomfort. Next, we inject the platelet-rich plasma into your scalp with small needle pricks. The platelets release growth hormones that increase blood circulation and cell growth, helping weak hair follicles to recover. The treatment is also effective in providing extra nourishment to transplanted hair follicles.

PRP treats hair loss

PRP strengthens hair follicles, improves blood circulation and promotes cell growth, resulting in stronger, denser and healthier hair. Originally used in surgery and sports medicine, PRP has recently become increasingly popular for aesthetic treatments for hair and skin. In the media, the treatment is sometimes referred to as "vampire treatment."

WHO is suitable for the Prp?

If your hair has started to thin but the follicles are still intact, PRP can help restore hair thickness and reduce hair loss. The treatment works best for women and younger men who have recently experienced hair loss. Although results vary between individuals, it can help regardless of age.

PRP CAN DEAL WITH:

HAIR LOSS: A course of three treatments is recommended initially, spaced a few weeks apart. Many people notice a reduction in hair loss after just 3-4 weeks, and after 3-6 months there is often clear hair growth.
ALOPECIA AREATA: PRP has shown success in treating Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease that causes patchy hair loss.
